Green Mountain School P.T.S.A

“Our mission is to inspire the parents and community of Green Mountain School District to make a difference in our children’s education through financial generosity and volunteer commitment.”

Green Mountain’s PTA is a gathering of parents committed to providing interesting activities to supplement our children’s education. Our biggest events are the book fairs, Halloween Carnival concession stand, and Christmas Wishes. The Scholastic Book Fair provides a great opportunity for students to purchase quality books and educational materials at reasonable prices, as well as earning free books and materials for our new library. In December, our organization holds the Christmas Wishes Gift Shop, where students can purchase reasonably priced gifts for their family and friends. The P.T.S.A. also provides refreshments for events throughout the year, and purchases educational equipment.

We are always happy to see new faces. Whether you have ideas, input, or time to volunteer, come to a meeting and help support our school!

A Message From Our President

Thank You Volunteers!

Helen Thompson - for all of you hard work organizing, planning, and conducting the Easter Egg Hunt!  Thank you also to the volunteers that contributed their time to this event!  It’s events like these that create positive memories for the children of Green Mountain School.

For those of you who don’t know…Helen contributes a lot of her personal time, working “behind the scenes” to make PTSA programs successful.  Helen, we appreciate your unconditional commitment to Green Mountain parents, teachers and students!  And for all the parents, teachers and staff who volunteer their time, you do not go unnoticed!

 A Message from our President
It can’t already be April can it?!!  We are well into the 3rd Trimester and I can’t figure out where this year has gone.  The PTSA is busy making our year end plans for Staff Appreciation Week and our all-school field trip.  We are involved with nominating next year’s officers and setting a date for our 2010-2011 budget meeting.  It all goes by so quickly.
That’s why I want to take a minute and think about the great things we have done so far this year.  We have hosted events like the Fall Book Fair, the Carnival, Christmas Wishes and the Easter Egg Hunt.  We have provided funds for Science on Wheels, the Children’s Museum Field Trip and Cispus Outdoor School.  We have provided hospitality at the Christmas Program and the Art Fair.  And we have worked behind the scenes supporting the teachers and staff at Green Mountain to make a difference for our children every day they attend school.  Whether it’s Art Day, Thanksgiving Brunch or Green Eggs and Ham – our members and the parents at Green Mountain are always willing to lend a hand.
You may or may not know that I have recently become employed outside my home.  That’s right, I have a real job where they give me money for working!  I make this distinction because I have had a job since the day I moved to Green Mountain.  My son Ben, who is now in 5th grade, was in his infant car seat the first day I went to volunteer at Green Mountain.  Suzette steered me in the direction of the Booster Club which became the PTSA, and before I knew it I was Secretary.  This was followed by Treasurer, President, Secretary and President again – sometimes for two years at a time – and I have enjoyed every minute of it!  I have always felt very fortunate to be able to stay home with my children and volunteer to make a difference at their school.  I have made a lot of friends over the years and met some very giving people.  This community is a great place to be.  I firmly believe there is not a better school district in Clark County.
As I close out my second year as president of the PTSA I am encouraged to see so many new members joining our group.  They will bring new ideas and new ways to do the things we do now.  Change is good.  Thank you for letting me lead you for as long as I have – I have certainly enjoyed it.  I hope and pray that the PTSA stays vibrant and active for many years to come.  Thank you.
Mary Eavenson
PTSA President

GMS Students will do the “Bear Walk” to Raise Funds

May 14th will be our 6th annual “Bear Walk” at Green Mountain School.  This year we will be walking to raise funds for playground improvements.  Some funds will also be used to pay for other PTSA functions like Field Day, Field Trips and Assemblies.

This year the walk will be held during school hours – from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, Friday, May 14th.  All Green Mountain students will be participating as part of their PE curriculum.  It will be a 5K Walk/Run which is 25 laps around our track.  The PTSA will provide snacks and water for all the participants.

This walk is not just for our students.  Any community member who would like some exercise or would like to support our school can participate.  So invite everyone you know to come out and walk or run on May 14th.  We encourage you to phone and email your family and friends to ask them for pledges.  If you need more pledge forms, they will be available in the office.

As in the past, there will be a grand prize for the student who collects the most pledges and many other prizes for our top pledge earners.  Everyone present will also receive a participation prize!  To be eligible for our top prizes you must present your pledge envelope at the beginning of the walk.

The Bear Walk is our biggest fund raiser of the year.  Our goal is to raise $5,000 this year.  We know the Green Mountain Bears can make it happen!  For more information or to volunteer please contact our Bear Walk co-chairs:  Linda Korum 247-4014 or lindakorum@tds.net and Amy Kinnan 247-7005
