We made homemade paper by recycling our construction paper scraps
and then used paper to make a weaving.
Next we will start a short unit on Health and Nutrition.
* In Math we
worked on the numbers 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17; reading, writing and
counting to them.
* We have started with
individual trimester testing in preparation for report cards and
conferences.
Story Retell “Stone Soup”
A poor man comes to a
village tired and hungry. He
knocks on doors hoping to find something to eat.
Everyone he meets tells him they cannot give him any food as they
are poor and hungry also.
Finally he asks one lady for a pot so he can make some stone soup for
the community. He sets up in
the town square and puts some water salt and pepper and a large stone in
the pot. As he stirs the
soup he talks about how good the soup would be if only he had a potato.
Two different villagers say they had a potato they could share
and go home to get them.
After the potatoes are cut up and stirred into the soup he mentioned how
nice the soup would be with some carrots.
Villagers volunteer their carrots and they are added to the pot
followed by some turnips, and a soup bone.
In the end because they shared none of the villagers went hungry.
*
This week’s sharing items should begin with the letter Jj.
We will be introducing three words per week for the rest of the
school year. Our new sight
words are: “do”, “what” and “not”.
* Conferences
are next week, if you requested a conference your time is in your
child’s folder today. If you
have a conference scheduled and will be unable to attend, please let me
know ASAP so we can reschedule for another time.
Next week’s Snack green:
Eric Morales
Next week’s Snack yellow:
Nick Tormanen
* Invention
Convention is coming up in May.
This is a chance for our students to create an invention that
they believe would make life better in some way.
Information is beginning to come home with older students so I
wanted to let you know kindergarteners are not required to participate.
If your child is interested they could participate on their own.
