What Have We Been Up To?

5th grade math:  In math class this group has been working on multiplication tables.  We have also been learning how to compute 2 digit x 2 digit math problems.  In the next couple of days we will begin our Math Pilot.  The 5th graders will be using a math program call Envision.

6th grade math:  In math class this group has been working on graphing data.  They have also been brushing up on their multiplication tables and solving multi-digit multiplication problems.

Science:  In science we recently finished our unit on Planetary Science.  Our unit quiz will be later this week.  Our next science unit is called Diversity of Life.  We will be learning about single cell and multi cell organisms.  We will be receiving class science pets later in the trimester.

Social Studies:  We are working on regional Native American tribes.  The students are creating informational posters about their region as a group.  They will be presenting their posters to the class.

Reading:  Each Monday students receive a new list of vocabulary words.  They have an assignment related to these words which is due every Friday.  In addition there is pre spelling test on Thursday and a final spelling test on Friday.  Each score of 14 or higher receives a “Victorious Vocabulary” ribbon for our wall.  We have been reading a variety of stories in our LA book.  We focus on themes, story elements and writers purpose.

PE: We are learning the game of basketball.  We run drills and play short games.

Things to Know...

Outdoor School Update:  As of January the class has raised a little over $400.  We have received corporate sponsors in the amount $300, so we are progressing toward our goal.  We will be starting our next fundraiser in the next couple of weeks.  We will be selling flower bulbs.  These can be ordered from an individual student or on line.  If you order on line the bulbs will be sent directly to your house.  Go to
